The St Columba’s School Musical explodes onto the stage!
Based on the hit '80's movie Footloose is full of electrifying dance routines and classic anthems including Holding Out For a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let's Hear It For The Boy and, of course, the title track Footloose.

Evening Study - Block 1
The first 5 week block of supervised Evening Study will commence on Monday 21st September 2026. Supervised study takes place from 4.15 to 5.45pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Evening Study is an important part of the school life. Students who attend study on a regular basis show improved grades and appear to do better in all exams. School life is busy for all students especially those doing State Exams, so evening study is an ideal way of preparing for them. Not enough emphasis can be given to the benefits of attending study in a quiet supervised environment.
A sandwich/snack and a juice will be provided in the canteen at 4.05pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. A contribution of €2.50 per evening is required and must be paid in advance. This is nonrefundable. If your child wishes to attend for one evening the cost is €2.50, two evenings cost €5 and so on.
TY Information Evening
Parents/guardians of our Transition Year students are invited to our TY Information Night on Thursday, 17th September at 7:00pm in the Hall.
The evening will provide an overview of the TY programme, including subjects, activities and experiences, important dates, expectations, supports for students, and the skills and opportunities TY can provide for future pathways.

2nd & 3rd Information Evening
We invite parents/guardians of our 2nd and 3rd Year students to an Information Night on Tuesday, 15th September at 7:00pm.
The evening will provide useful information on the Junior Cycle, including the CBA calendar and key dates, as well as the supports available to students throughout the year.

Parent's Association AGM
We’re inviting all parents and guardians to our Parents’ Association AGM on Tuesday, 29th September at 7pm.
The Parents’ Association plays an important role in our school community, working alongside the principal, staff and Board of Management to strengthen the partnership between home and school.
>At this year’s AGM, Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer will be elected for the new 2026–2028 term.
We are also looking for new volunteers to get involved. Whether you have lots of time or can simply lend a hand when you can, your involvement can make a real difference to our school community.
Everyone is welcome — come along, have your say and get involved!
LC Biology AAC's
Our 6th Year Biology students are currently completing an important part of their Leaving Certificate course, the Additional Assessment Component (AAC), which is worth 40% of their Leaving Certificate Biology result.
As part of the AAC, each class will carry out a practical experiment in the laboratory. Classes have been divided into two groups to ensure that every student gets the lab time and support they need, with each group completing their experiment over two Biology lessons. Students have been informed by their Biology teacher which group they are in.
Attendance during these allocated lessons is essential.
As this work forms part of a State Examination component, it must be carried out under the direct supervision of the class teacher and cannot simply be completed at another time. Our laboratories are also required for other Senior Cycle practical work during this period, so opportunities for alternative sessions are very limited.
If your child has a medical appointment which clashes with their allocated session, please let their Biology teacher know in advance so that alternative arrangements can be considered.

Appointment of New Principal
The Board of Management of St. Columba's College is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms. Jennifer Kelly as the new Principal of the College, effective from 1st September 2026. Ms. Kelly brings a wealth of educational experience, leadership, and commitment to student achievement and wellbeing. The Board is confident that she will build upon the strong traditions of excellence, care, and community that have long been associated with St. Columba's College.
Originally from Inniskeen, County Monaghan, Jennifer has had experience of working in both the Voluntary and ETB sectors since 2004. She initially worked in Colaiste Choilm, Swords, Co. Dublin for eleven years as a teacher of English and AEN. She then moved to coordinate the first special class for children with autism in Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dunleer, Co. Louth and spent a further three years as a teacher of English and AEN in St. Kieran’s College, Kilkenny.
Jennifer joined the Senior Leadership Team in St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Drogheda, Co. Louth as Deputy Principal in 2019. During her time in St. Joseph’s Jennifer has led many SSE teaching and learning initiatives and has fostered a culture of student-centred care through her work leading student support teams. She also worked as an associate with the JCT in the area of Whole School Development from 2019 - 2022. Jennifer has a keen interest in supporting collaborative practice to enhance teaching and learning and is very much looking forward to connecting with the students, staff and parents of St. Columba’s College.
Speaking about her new appointment, Jennifer said “I am leaving one amazing school community in Drogheda to join another equally brilliant school in Stranorlar. I am thrilled to have been afforded the privilege of leading St. Columba’s College through the next very exciting phase of a state-of-the-art new build with educational and extra-curricular facilities that will be second to none for our students and staff. The dedication of the outgoing Principal Mr. Tom Rowan, the Deputy Principals and their wonderful staff in providing quality teaching and learning rooted in an ethos of care, togetherness, responsibility and respect is one that I will nurture and support in the coming years.”
The Board of Management warmly welcomes Jennifer to this important role and look forward to working together as we continue to support and inspire our students to reach their full potential.

School Variety Show 2026
Join us for a night of music, magic, and drama at the St. Columba’s College Variety Show, kicking off at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, April 28th at the Balor Theatre. Tickets are available at the school, the Balor Box Office or online here, and are just €7 for students and €10 for adults!

Special Class Enrolment
St Columba’s College is pleased to announce the opening of a new Special Class for students with Autism for the 2026/2027 school year. This class has been sanctioned by the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) to support students with additional educational needs in a structured and supportive environment.

Advanced Medical Services - Cardiac Screening
Advanced Medical Services (AMS) will be visiting St Columba's College to provide a comprehensive, doctor led Cardiac Screening service in the middle of May.
AMS is Ireland’s leading mobile cardiac screening company. They perform cardiac screening in schools & sports clubs nationwide for over 15 years, ultimately aimed at reducing the incidents of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS).

Active Citizenship in Action
St Columba’s College is proud to be part of the PEACEPLUS ASPIRE programme, which promotes a society where differences are celebrated. Through a cross-border partnership with Strabane Academy, pupils recently travelled to Derry–Londonderry for a shared education experience in action. The trip included visits to the Guildhall and the Tower Museum, where students explored key moments in the city’s history and took part in workshops focused on peace, reconciliation, and community building. The experience fostered dialogue, teamwork, and new friendships, reflecting the core aims of the programme.

Our Parents Council is organizing a 50-50 draw this term. The Easter Draw will take place on Friday, 11th April, with half the money raised going to one lucky winner.

School Building Development
Our Board of Management has received authorisation this evening from the Department of Education Planning and Building Unit to proceed to the Tendering Stage for our proposed major extension and refurbishment of our facilities.
It is hoped that the Tendering process will be completed by the third quarter of this year, with construction to commence in early 2026. Many thanks to everyone in our school community who has supported this development to date and a special word of thanks to our Design Team.
