At St. Columba's College, we believe in fostering leadership, responsibility, and team-work among our students. Our student leadership structures provide opportunities for students to develop their skills, represent their peers, and contribute to the school community. The three main leadership groups within the school are the Student Prefects, Student Council, and Sports Council.
Our Student Prefects play a key role in setting a positive example for the school community. Selected from both senior and junior students, prefects are responsible for upholding the values of the college, assisting in school events, and supporting both staff and students. They act as role models, helping to maintain discipline, encouraging inclusivity, and promoting a welcoming atmosphere throughout the school.
Junior Prefects play an important role in supporting their classmates and assisting with school activities. They are appointed by the class tutor, with a new prefect selected each term to ensure that multiple students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills.
Prefects are expected to demonstrate responsibility, respect, and a positive attitude in their role. Their duties may include assisting teachers, helping to maintain a positive classroom environment, and representing their peers.
This rotation system allows different students to take on leadership responsibilities throughout the year, fostering teamwork and personal growth.
Senior Prefects are elected by their fellow 6th-year students and serve in their role for the entire academic year. They act as role models within the school community, representing their peers and assisting with various school events and responsibilities.
Senior Prefects are expected to demonstrate strong leadership, integrity, and a commitment to the school’s values. Their duties may include organizing events, supporting younger students, liaising with staff, and promoting a positive school environment.
This system ensures that Senior Prefects are chosen by their peers based on their leadership qualities and ability to contribute positively to school life.
